English: ELF Championship Game 2023 in Duisburg

The European League of Football announced today that the 2023 championship game venue will be Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena Duisburg. This makes Duisburg the third host city of the most important game in European football, after Düsseldorf in 2021 and Klagenfurt in 2022. Wrocław and Leipzig (Red Bull Arena) had also applied to host the final game, source says.

Modern stadium was renamed in 2010

The Arena was called Wedaustadion and later MSV-Arena for a long time before it was taken over by tour operator Schauinsland-Reisen in the summer of 2010. The stadium is quite modern. It was built as early as 1921, but was extensively renovated in 2003/04. It has around 23,000 seats and more than 7,000 standing places.

Home of Rhein Fire

Since 2022, the stadium has been home to the Rhein Fire. New records for regular season games were regularly broken here. At the Fire’s game against the Frankfurt Galaxy, 12,055 spectators streamed into the stadium. It’s safe to say that the final will take place in the football capital of Europe in 2023.

„With this, the place to be for all teams is fixed. We are pleased that we were able to provide clarity at an early stage and have the certainty that the next final will also take place in an outstanding setting. It is a beautiful stadium and offers the right infrastructure for a great football party, which we will celebrate with the fans around the Championship Game. The games of Rhein Fire, who are at home in Duisburg, have shown how great the enthusiasm is,“ said Zeljko Karajica, Managing Director of the European League of Football, on the European League of Football website.
