English: CFL Global Draft Pick Kārlis Brauns signs with Frankfurt Galaxy
On Tuesday evening, the Frankfurt Galaxy announced the signing of Latvian defensive end Kārlis Gustavs Brauns. The 28-year-old was actually under contract with the Panthers Wrocław for the 2022 season, but the Polish franchise and Brauns mutually terminated the deal as Brauns was trying his hand in Canada. There, he was selected third overall in the CFL Global Draft by the BC Lions in early May. Brauns was released as part of the final cuts before the start of the Canadian Football League season in June. So now he joins the reigning ELF champions, who started the season with two losses. The contract with Vincent Buffet was terminated by mutual agreement. This freed up an EU import spot.

We don’t have to say much about Karlis Brauns. He is one of the most dazzling figures in European football and an absolute fighter on the field. He is a type of player we didn’t have like that. The fans will love him.

Brauns first started playing American football at the age of 21 with the Riga Lions. He went on to play for the Belgrade Blue Dragons, Kotka Eagles, Cologne Crocodiles, Hildesheim Invaders, the Wieliczka Dragons and the Panthers Wrocław. The 1.97m tall and 120kg defensive end should also have already played twice for the Frankfurt Universe around Head Coach Thomas Kösling. Thus, Brauns was signed in 2018, but the Universe had to cancel him due to the insolvency of the operating company. In 2020, as is well known, the GFL season did not take place due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Last season, Brauns recorded 8.5 sacks for the Panthers and was among the league’s most dangerous pass rushers. This spring, he trained at HUB Football in the U.S. and participated in the College Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas.

Am Dienstag Abend gab die Frankfurt Galaxy die Verpflichtung des lettischen Defensive Ends Kārlis Gustavs Brauns bekannt. Der 28-jährige stand für die Saison 2022 eigentlich bei den Panthers Wrocław unter Vertrag, doch lösten das polnische Franchise und Brauns den Vertrag einvernehmlich auf, da Brauns sich in Kanada versuchte. Dort war er Anfang Mai von den BC Lions an dritter Stelle im CFL Global Draft ausgewählt worden. Im Rahmen der finalen Kaderzusammenstellung vor Saisonbeginn der Canadian Football League im Juni wurde Brauns entlassen. Nun also schließt er sich dem amtierenden Champion an, der mit zwei Niederlagen in die Saison startete. Der Vertrag mit Vincent Buffet wurde im beidseitigen Einvernehmen aufgelöst. Dadurch wurde ein EU-Importplatz frei, den nun Brauns einnimmt.

In der letzten Saison verzeichnete Brauns 8.5 Sacks für die Panthers und gehörte zu den gefährlichsten Pass Rushern der Liga. Im Frühjahr diesen Jahres bereitete er sich bei HUB Football in den USA vor und nahm am College Gridiron Showcase in Fort Worth, Texas teil.
