English: Berlin Thunder signed Macéo Beard

The 22-year-old defensive back was already introduced on January 18 as a new addition to the Berlin Thunder and was actually present at the start of practice on May 1 in Berlin. One day later, however, he was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders from the Canadian Football League (CFL) and Macéo Beard-Aigret took that chance. Shortly before the CFL season started in early June, Beard was suspended and later released. After Amir Kilani suffered a serious injury in the game against the Leipzig Kings, Beard is now back with Berlin Thunder. Kilani had been signed in early May in response to Beard’s departure.

Beard (6’2 200 lbs) began playing American football with the Montereau Strikers. There, he was named Rookie of the Year in 2016 as a wide receiver and cornerback. Looking to prove himself at a higher junior level, he joined the Kangourous de Pessac. He won the French U19 championship with the Kangourous and was named MVP of the game in the championship game. Beard recommended himself for the Cégep de Thetford in Quebec through Europe’s Elite Summer Camp. Additionally, he finished third with the French junior national team at the 2019 European Under-19 Championships, where he played quarterback and other roles.

In 2020, Beard participated in the CFL Global Combine in Paris. He then joined the Black Panthers de Thonon, but the 2020 season was cancelled after a few weeks due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Most recently, he played for the Potsdam Royals in the GFL. In eight games, he totaled 14 tackles, one stuff, two interceptions and 6 pass break-ups. As a result, he was invited to the NFL International Combine in London. Finally, in late October 2021, he played for the French national team in the third-place game at the 2021 European Championship against Finland.
