English: Surge gets another reinforcement from the Unicorns

After Sercan Vardar has already been announced as part of the defensive line ine for 2023, the second D-Liner is now confirmed. Simon Butsch comes from the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns to the state capital and will play for Stuttgart Surge in 2023.

“I am looking forward to the new challenge and will work hard to build on previous successes. I also want to help establish a winning mentality and culture in Stuttgart.”

Simon Butsch

The 30-year-old defensive end started playing American football with the Holzgerlingen Tiwster at the age of 15. After spending nine respectable years there, he moved to the Swarco Raiders Tirol in 2015 and spent two years in Austria. There he earned two rings before returning to his Swabian homeland in 2017, though he didn’t return to Holzgerlingen, but joined the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns. There, the titles kept on coming. He won a German Bowl in 2017, 2018 and 2022 and was also champion of the CEFL Bowl in 2021 and 2022. The 247 lbs and 6′8″ tall defensive end clearly knows how to win.

With 17 years of football experience, an excellent and important reinforcement joins the Stuttgart Surge defense. Butsch is the first new face of the defensive line after Coach Justin Bernthaler and as well as defensive end Sercan Vardar, who have been there since day one, have extended their contracts.

PRESSEMITTEILUNG – Stuttgart, 05.12.2022
