The Istanbul Rams started their first season in the European League of Football with two defeats. At the opening game, the Turkish franchise narrowly lost 38:40 at the Cologne Centurions. Only some dropped balls, especially by import receivers, prevented the upset. A week later, on the other hand, they suffered a 7:41 defeat at Berlin Thunder. Only a blocked punt return touchdown by Chad Walrond followed by an extra point put the Rams on the scoreboard, the offense remained scoreless.
Now one of the top performers withdrew from the team after only two weeks: Safety and return specialist Chad Walrond is no longer a part of the Istanbul Rams. In week one the Bajan Brit was the leading tackler of his team (10 total tackles, 1 TFL). He also proved in Week 2 that he belongs in this league. As mentioned earlier, his blocked punt return touchdown accounted for the Rams‘ only score. In addition, his seven tackles were again a strong number.
Another British import player will not suit up for the Rams in the coming weeks. Wide Receiver Kris Alexander Wedderburn suffered a serious injury. He hopes to be back on the field towards the end of the season. The 27-year-old caught the first tochdown of the ELF season, but dropped a couple of catchable passes afterwards.
Previously this week, there were rumors about Jared Stegman that were spread by American Football International author Alex Malchow. Sources had told him that Stegman’s job as starting quarterback was on the line (which would mean his release). This rumor was denied by the Rams.

Eine Woche später hingegen gab es bei Berlin Thunder eine 7:41-Klatsche. Lediglich durch einen Blocked Punt Return Touchdown von Chad Walrond mit anschließendem Extrapunkt brachten sich die Rams auf die Anzeigetafel, die Offensive blieb punktlos. Auch wenn im Vorfeld der Saison die Rams häufig als eines der schwächsten Teams eingeschätzt wurden, war die Niederlage in dieser Form überraschend. Auch in Istanbul ist man über diesen Start unzufrieden, innerhalb des Franchise brodelt es.
Nun zog sich einer der Leistungsträger nach nur zwei Wochen aus dem Team zurück. Safety und Return Specialist Chad Walrond ist kein Teil der Istanbul Rams mehr. Die Initiative zu seiner Entlassung ging dabei von ihm aus. In Woche eins war der Bajan Brite der Leading Tackler seines Teams (10 Total Tackles, 1 TFL). Auch in Week 2 stellte er unter Beweis, dass er in diese Liga gehört. Wie bereits erwähnt, sorgte er mit seinem geblockten Punt und dem daraus resultierenden Touchdown für den einzigen Score der Rams. Zudem waren seine sieben Tackles erneut eine starke Zahl.
Ein weiterer britischer Importspieler wird in den nächsten Wochen nicht für die Rams auflaufen. So verletzte sich Kris Alexander Wedderburn schwer.
