English: All-Star Buffet re-signs with Kings after short stint at Galaxy
French defensive lineman Vincent Buffet was cut by the Frankfurt Galaxy last week, with his contract officially terminated by mutual agreement. Now the 30-year-old Frenchman has already found a new team: The Leipzig Kings. In return, the Saxon franchise has released New Zealander Zachariah Davidson-Betham, who had most recently moved from the Offensive Line to the Defensive Line but suffered an injury.
The 1.89-meter Buffet played several years in his hometown with the Léopard de Rouen Football before leaving the Léopards during the 2019 French season to play for the Seinäjoki Crocodiles in the Finnish Maple League. There, Buffet impressed with 5.0 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss in 12 games, which is why he was named to the Maple League All-Star Team. In addition, he was on the French national squad in 2019. He joined the Hildesheim Invaders for the 2020 GFL season, but the season was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Last season, Buffet was already under contract with the Leipzig Kings. There he was used primarily as a defensive end. He was so convincing that he was named to the ELF All-Star Team (12 Tackles for Loss, 6 Sacks). Although the separation after the end of the season was somewhat bumpy, they have now been reunited.
Buffet’s signing is considered surprising, after all, the Kings‘ defense has already shown itself to be a very strong unit over the past three weeks. The team’s weaknesses were clearly on the offensive side of the ball, but they failed to respond to that with new personnel this week.
