The Cologne Centurions announce Kahlil Carter as their new head coach and defensive coordinator for the 2023 season. The 46-year-old from Washington DC already has more than 15 years of experience in various coaching positions in Canada and the United States. Most recently, he served as defensive coordinator for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Carter began his coaching career as a player/coach in 2007 as the Pass Game and Special Teams Coordinator for the Arkansas Twisters, and in 2010 for the Iowa Barnstormers. Later, in 2010, Carter accepted his first collegiate coaching position at Graceland University. His other stops took him from the Trenton Steel in the Southern Indoor Football League to Valley High School in West Des Moines and the Drake Bulldogs to Canada to the Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 2014, Carter was hired as the secondary coach for the Florida Blacktips in the newly formed FXFL which later became The Spring League. From 2015 to 2017, Carter served as defensive backs coach for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League. In early 2018, Carter was named Defensive Coordinator in Montreal, but stepped down from that position for personal reasons to become a team scout.
As a player, the Centurions‘ new head coach played in NFL Europe (Scottish Claymores), the Arena Football League and the Canadian Football League (Toronto Argonauts, Montreal Alouettes) between 2000 and 2010. In addition, he was part of the NFL teams of the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills in 2003 and 2004, but remained without an assignment there.
Although born in Washington, D.C., Carter grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he graduated from Little Rock Central High School. In 2000, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a B.A. in psychology and a minor in French. In August 2014, Carter graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and received a Master of Public Administration. Carter has over 10 years of experience in youth counseling and mentoring.
The Centurions are convinced that they have found a young but experienced head coach in
Kahlil Carter. General Manager David Drane commented:

Der 46-Jährige aus Washington DC verfügt bereits über mehr als 15 Jahre Erfahrung in verschiedenen Trainerpositionen in den Vereinigten Staaten und Kanada. Zuletzt war er als Defensive Coordinator der Montreal Alouettes in der Canadian Football Leage (CFL) tätig.
Carter begann seine Trainerkarriere als Spieler/Trainer im Jahr 2007 als Pass Game und Special Teams Coordinator für die Arkansas Twisters und im Jahr 2010 für die Iowa Barnstormers. Später, im Jahr 2010, nahm Carter seine erste Stelle als College-Coach an der Graceland University an. Seine weiteren Stationen führten ihn von den Trenton Steel in der Southern Indoor Football League über die Valley High School in West Des Moines und die Drake Bulldogs nach Kanada zum Grey-Cup-Sieger Saskatchewan Roughriders.
