English: Milanovic continues to pancake defenders for Vienna in 2023
The Vienna Vikings have extended left tackle Aleksandar Milanovic, who was the first Austrian recruited out of college with no high school experience. A leader on and off the field, the 31-year-old Vienna native is an important figure on the Vikings team. The teacher and gifted trash talker is perhaps the European offensive lineman who most combines the qualities needed to bring opponents flat on their back. Strength, speed, agility and aggressiveness. It is therefore hardly surprising that pancake blocks are among his favorite activities. Milanovic always plays to the whistle, so if you’re not careful, you’ll be knocked off your feet quickly.

Milanovic initially practiced with the Vienna Knights for a month in 2005 before joining the Vikings‘ youth ranks. Being very tall at a young age, it was quickly apparent that he belonged on the offensive line. After a tough couple of months at the beginning, Milanovic became more and more dominant. He eventually made the jump across the Atlantic to the U.S., where he studied political science at Division I College Sacramento State. After sitting out his freshman year as a redshirt, he appeared in 33 games for the Hornets as a starter (mostly right tackle). This makes him one of the pioneers, as several Austrians would also try to gain a foothold in college football in the years that followed.

Die Vienna Vikings haben mit Left Tackle Aleksandar Milanovic verlängert. Als Führungspersönlichkeit auf und neben dem Feld ist der 31-jährige Wiener eine wichtige Figur im Vikings-Team. Der Lehrer und begnadete Trash-Talker ist vielleicht der europäische Offensive Lineman, der am besten die Qualitäten in sich vereint, die man braucht, um Gegner auf den Rücken zu werfen. Kraft, Schnelligkeit, Beweglichkeit und Aggressivität. Es ist daher nicht verwunderlich, dass Pancake Blocks zu seinen Lieblingsbeschäftigungen gehören. Milanovic spielt immer bis zum Abpfiff, und wenn man nicht aufpasst, wird man schnell von den Füßen geholt.

Milanovic trainierte 2005 zunächst einen Monat lang mit den Vienna Knights, bevor er in die Jugendabteilung der Vikings wechselte. Da er schon in jungen Jahren sehr groß war, war schnell klar, dass er in die Offensive Line gehörte. Nach ein paar schwierigen Monaten zu Beginn wurde Milanovic immer dominanter. Schließlich schaffte er den Sprung über den Atlantik in die USA, wo er am Division I College Sacramento State Politikwissenschaften studierte. Dabei war er der erste Österreicher, der ohne Highschool-Erfahrung von einem US-College rekrutiert wurde. Nachdem er in seinem ersten Jahr als Redshirt ausgesessen hatte, bestritt er 33 Spiele für die Hornets als Starter (meist als Right Tackle). Damit gehört er zu den Pionieren, denn in den folgenden Jahren versuchten einige weitere Österreicher, im College Football Fuß zu fassen.
